"The MC is likable and thoughtfull. The author strikes a good balance between making the MC intelligent but doesn't make him overpowered, he makes mistakes, but learns from them.
It is lite on the stats, but with the clean and entertaining flow of the story that didn't bother me at all.
Can't wait for the next installment, will be a must buy.
8 out of 10 stars"

    8 out of 10 stars
  • For me, the Russian LitRPG began not only with Rus and Makhanenko, but also with this series. Since then, I have reread this series more than once. Fresh, unusual and very exciting. Sergey creates interesting worlds and voluminous characters. Read it now!
  • I've recently discovered litRPG books and have dived headfirst into the genre. I enjoyed the story and characters of this book. The characters grow and level at a reasonable pace, and the world and system are intruiging. The only reason I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 are for several grammatical errors, a slightly forced ending, and the habit it putting every name of everything in the game world in double quotes. Given that this is likely a translation from Russian, the errors are few and far between, and it seems like there are few to no issues in translation.
I'm looking forward to starting the next entry in the series!!!?
  • This is a Russian translation that focuses mostly on action-adventure. The MC wakes up in a virtual world and is given a goal to beat the hardest dungeon and the baddest boss in the starter zone, all with in 10 days. If he does, he'll get to keep his scaling starter items and have an advantage out in the world beyond which he'll automatically be sent to in 10 days. But, it's not a straightforward path. He'll have to deal with competing guilds, PvP assassins, a variety of linked quests, and many monsters. There are also mysteries to be solved. Like why doesn't anyone have memories of before the game? Or who is trying to permadeath him?

Overall, the combat in the story is good. A nice variety of monsters and quest types. It's actually the main part of the novel. Though there are a few sections that are info dumps, they're rare. Also, just because of the amnesia aspect of the story, it may be challenging for some readers to connect to the characters since they don’t have a backstory.

    Score 7.3 out of 10
  • As explained in the first few pages of the novel, players form in their avatars without any memory of their past. While this plot concept has some interesting characteristics, it also makes it difficult to identify with any of the characters. When the book ended, I realized I still didn't know enough about most of the characters to care about them. There were a few I disliked, but the author's unique plot twist (everyone has amnesia) also greatly hindered my ability to enjoy getting to know the characters.

Mechanically, the book was well written. The translation was pretty good, although there were some errors that will be obvious to native English speakers. For example, "thrash" was used when the author meant "trash" and "no" was used when American speakers would have used "not". However, these flaws were relatively minor and I've given higher ratings to books with more severe translation problems. If you just want to read a litRPG novel, this may work fine for you. If you enjoy getting to know the characters, this may be a frustrating experience. The book ends with a minor cliffhanger, but since I was unable to identify with the protagonist, I really didn't care...
  • I originally saw that there were multiple books in this series and was really excited to binge a whole net set of novels. Alas! The other books are not translated yet! What a bummer! The book itself was pretty good. There was a mystery at the beginning that kind of ended up going nowhere, but other than that I really enjoyed the story.
  • I recommend this book to fellow litrpg readers, and any fantasy fans who happen to read this. Light on numbers, but still a good read.
  • Worth picking up. Characters were fun with a lot of plot twists. Following this author and waiting for the next book.
