- I loved this book until I realized that binge eating cannot be solved with a code. Everything in this book sparked hope within me, but as wonderful as the suggestions are, I needed something more. This book has some good practical ideas and tools, but much like the other books I’ve read on this topic in an attempt to change my behavior, it wasn’t enough.
Turns out I needed to address the underlying issues, face my fears, feel my pain. I recommend Hungry for Happiness by Samantha Skelly as an alternative and if you are serious about ending binge eating, look into her 6 month program. I’m halfway through and my binge eating has gone down about 90%, anxiety and depression have gone from a 10/10 to a 2/10. - Really enjoyed this book. - Ali's book has truly changed my life in a short amount of time. I struggled with anorexia in my teenage years and was managing fairly well until about a year ago when the demands and stress of having four young children sent me back into a relapse of anorexia that then manifested into major reactive binge eating.
Ali's seven traps succinctly and precisely targeted the exact reasons I was binging. My body was malnourished for so long that this was a natural response to the starvation. Some keep points from the book I use daily include
Beginning with getting the adequate nourishment
Not beating myself up if I slipped up and have a binge and recognizing the binges are getting smaller and less frequent
Knowing I wasn't back to square one if I have a slip up
Recognizing that punishing myself through negative self talk was only more detrimental to my well being and not a good motivator to my recovery
Please buy this book if you struggle with binge eating, bulimia, or any type of restrictive eating you react to with overeating. It truly can change your life! - I have had anorexia, bulimia and now binge eating disorder. I've certainly read my share of self-help books! Most of them make sense in what they're saying, but sticking to what they tell you to do to recover has always been a challenge. This book is put together really well and explains why people develop eating disorders in the first place. It gives you simple, clear steps to follow to help you start your recovery. I know that recovery isn't something I can do in a week, but for the first time in a long time I don't feel quite as overwhelmed about recovery. Hands down this is the best book I've read so far. The best part is you can go online and sign up and you get emails from the author (who, by the way, has struggled with her own eating disorder and understands what it's like to go through what you go through when you have disordered eating). The emails have been really nice. They include helpful reminders and are exactly what I need to support the journey of becoming a better me. Thank you, Ali Kerr for writing such an amazing book. For the first time I'm filled with hope, and that's a great place for me to start.
- I own multiple books on emotional eating, I've struggled all my life. My daughter happened upon this book and shared it with me. I downloaded the sample and was immediately hooked! It's been a blessing and a comfort. Highly recommended for those who struggle.
- I'm disappointed that it doesn't appear that there is any way to receive the audio meditations, the food journal, etc. unless you order this book from the Binge Code.com site. I was really hoping for the audio meditations.

- The Binge Code is an easy-to-read, but incredibly informative book. I love that it outlines concrete steps for struggling binge eaters to take. These steps helped me to stop feeling helpless and gave me hope that I could change. I now have more insight into my destructive eating habits and better ways to prevent them. I love that it is written by someone who overcame binge eating and truly understands the challenges faced by binge eaters. Ali's honesty and compassion are inspiring and comforting. The supplemental online audios are great too! If you are struggling with the diet/binge cycle, overeating, or binge eating, this book can definitely jump-start or strengthen your recovery efforts.
